Concertino for guitar Op.66

£20.00

2222 4231 tp perc strgs solo guitar

15 min.

Written for and dedicated to Timothy Bloomer, a multi-talented musician, on his leaving Hatfield School. He's probably a doctor now.

IHMO6

Concertino for flute Op. 115

£20.00

1222-2200 tp/perc (1 player) strgs solo flute

12 min.

Written for and dedicated to Jane Archer, for many years my principal flute at Pennine Spring Music. Composed in a single movement, the brisk Haydnesque outer sections surround a sleazy tango.

Concertino for clarinet Op. 125

£20.00

2212-2000 tp perc strgs solo clarinet

12 min.

The centrepiece to this one-movement work is a set of variations on a theme of Rossini, written separately for the 65th birthday of my friend, Dr. Martin Cook. The surrounding Allegro hints at the Rossini theme but develops in its own way.

Octocentennial Variations for clarinet and orchestra Op.82

£25.00

2d12d12+sax2 4231 tp perc hp strgs solo clarinet

20 min.

Written for the 800th anniversary of the dedication of the church of St. Thomas the Martyr and St. Thomas the Apostle, Heptonstall in 1988. The theme is from around 1188, and each variation is in the style of a century on, e.g. 1388 suggests Guillaume de Machaut, 1688 Henry Purcell, 1888 Tchaikovsky.

An All-night Sea Fight Op.48

£25.00

2111 1101 tp pno str narrator

20 min

Originally written for a concert at Hatfield School, this was revised in 1998 for a revival at Pennine Spring Music. The verse is that of the inimitable William McGonagall, and describes in luxuriant Scots detail a minor naval encounter in the Caribbean. The narrator will need good lung-power or a microphone!

Dances from 'Piper' for cello and orchestra Op.89

£20.00

3d1222 4231 tp perc strgs solo cello

12 min.

In 1990, I orchestrated Aidan Bell's music for 'Piper', for a production in Welwyn Garden City. This featured a solo cello from the original (rock) orchestration. Three of the original dances have been expanded here as a concert work.
